Family and Friends
I want to thank all of you for the outpouring of affection for Cheryl and our family. I am humbled by the response. The richness in our life is the friendships we share with all of you. During what I would consider to be the darkest days of my life, I am comforted by the love and friendship my family has received.
Our final plans for Cheryl have been determined. The family has agreed to keep consistent with Cheryl's final wishes to have a private church service on [edited for privacy] for family. We will honor Cheryl as a family and say our goodbyes. We will also have a "Celebration of Cheryl" on Sunday, April 26th for all of the many friends of Cheryl and I. This event will be a celebration of her life and spirit. Please join us to share a hug, a smile and a happy story about Cheryl. Seeing the joy she brought to others and hearing how she was loved by so many will be a wonderful gift to the boys. The "celebration" will be held at Shenandoah Mill, located at 1359 So. Gilbert Road, Gilbert, AZ. It will begin at 3:00pm and will go until about 5:00pm.
Cheryl's friends from the Tempe Elementary School District and Aguilar School have set up an education foundation in her name to assist the boys with college. We are requesting that in lieu of flowers you contribute to the fund. The fund is set up at any Tempe Schools Credit Union in the name of Cheryl Schiefer. Thank you all once again for all of the kind words and support for our family. I cannot express enough how much it means to me.
Love,
Joe”
Tempe Officer Kevin Renwick adds “After talking with Joe, he told me that he and his family would prefer those coming to Cheryl's celebration wear "business casual" clothing. What they don't want is the normal "black and somber" type of clothing. They truly want this to be a celebration of Cheryl's life and wearing black just doesn't convey that message.”
Update on Motor Officer Todd Long’s recovery
A message from Officer Haylee Bridges.
“Good Morning. Todd had a rough day yesterday. He was very tired and sore from the beginning rehab session. It is encouraging that they began rehab on a small scale, but it is causing even more pain for Todd. There is still a risk of infection and the added pain is affecting his rest, so his visitors are still restricted. Once the restriction is lifted, we will let you know.
Diane's words: " I am just overwhelmed at the amount of support and help we have received. Wow! "
Don't forget the upcoming events to assist Todd and Diane. Another fundraiser has been planned by their scout troop. They will be selling "Todd t-shirts". Stay tuned for more details in the near future.
Thank you for being such a terrific group of people.
